UDP test for SOCKS5 proxies

Find out whether your SOCKS5 proxy also carries UDP, the protocol behind calls, online games, WebRTC and QUIC: exit IP, latency, jitter and packet loss.

We recognise the most common formats and fill in the fields for you.

SOCKS5SOCKS5 proxies only: UDP doesn't go through HTTP proxies.

The username and password are used only for this test: we don't store them and they never appear in logs. Test packets only go to Cloudflare's DNS.

How it works

  1. Our server connects to the SOCKS5 proxy and, with your credentials, asks it to open a UDP channel: that's the UDP ASSOCIATE command.
  2. Through the channel it sends 10 small DNS queries to Cloudflare's servers, which reply with the IP they come from: that's the IP UDP exits the proxy with. If the proxy also exits over IPv6, we test that too.
  3. From the replies we work out packet loss, latency and jitter, and compare the UDP IP with the TCP one.

The test runs from our server: if the proxy only accepts certain IPs (whitelist), it may work from your computer even if it shows as unreachable here.

Frequently asked questions

What is UDP used for in a proxy?

UDP is the protocol of voice and video calls (WhatsApp, Telegram, Zoom, Discord), online games, DNS, WebRTC and QUIC, the transport behind the HTTP/3 used by Google and YouTube. If the proxy doesn't carry it, these apps get slower or stop working, and some go out without the proxy, with your real IP: you can see it with the WebRTC test.

Do HTTP proxies support UDP?

No. HTTP proxies, CONNECT included, only carry TCP connections. UDP only goes through SOCKS5 proxies, with the UDP ASSOCIATE command; SOCKS4 doesn't support it.

Why doesn't UDP work if the proxy works?

It's common: many providers disable UDP ASSOCIATE (the test says the proxy refuses it) or leave the UDP channel behind a firewall or NAT that blocks the packets (no reply). TCP, the one websites and ordinary apps use, still works in these cases.

What do latency, jitter and packet loss mean?

Latency is a packet's round-trip time. Jitter is how much it changes from one packet to the next: above 30 ms, calls start to stutter. Packet loss is noticeable in calls and games from 1–2%; on a mobile network, an occasional loss is normal.

Do ProxyHub proxies carry UDP?

Yes: SOCKS5 ports also carry UDP. In the client area, every proxy has a “UDP test” button so you can check it whenever you like.
