VPN (WireGuard and OpenVPN)
Use the proxy as a VPN with OpenVPN
OpenVPN is the most compatible choice: it works on phones, computers and many routers. The .ovpn file you download already contains everything, certificate included: no username or password to type.
Step by step
- 1
In the client area open your proxy and scroll down to the VPN section.
- 2
Press “New OpenVPN” and download the .ovpn file.
- 3
Install OpenVPN Connect, the official app: App Store on iPhone and Mac, Google Play on Android, openvpn.net on Windows.
- 4
On a phone: open the .ovpn file (from the Files app or Downloads) with OpenVPN Connect, or tap “Import Profile” › “File” in the app.
- 5
On a computer: in OpenVPN Connect choose “Import Profile” › “Upload File” and select the .ovpn file.
- 6
Press “Connect” and open ProxyHub's What is my IP page: your proxy's mobile IP should appear.
sudo apt install openvpn
sudo openvpn --config proxyhub.ovpn
# In another terminal: it should answer with the proxy's mobile IP
curl https://api.ipify.orgTips
- The file contains your personal certificate: keep it private. If you lose it, delete it in the client area and create a new one.
- On routers (OpenWrt, pfSense, many home routers with an OpenVPN client) import the same file: your whole home or office network goes out through the mobile IP.
- On smartphones WireGuard is usually faster and lighter on the battery; OpenVPN is handy where WireGuard isn't available.
- OpenVPN runs over UDP: if a network blocks UDP, use the HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy or another network.
- With “Rotate IP” or the rotation link the VPN stays connected: new connections go out with the new IP.
